February: when winter tests the condition of the body and the relationship
Shorter days and cold affect mood, energy and closeness. What the body needs in the middle of winter, without clichés.
February is, in psychological literature, often the hardest month of the year. Not because of the weather itself, but because of the accumulated lack of light, movement and fresh air. Winter tests the balance that we did not yet notice in autumn.
How the body responds
A lower level of serotonin means less energy and often a lower libido. This is not a fault, but biology. The body conserves. Anyone who feels that in February "everything is harder" often has a physical basis, not a psychological one.
Sleep is the key helper during this period. Six hours is not enough, seven to eight hours of quality sleep is the standard that genuinely changes mood and motivation.
How to maintain closeness when you are tired
Intimacy does not always mean sex. It means contact, a massage, a shared bath, ten minutes without a phone before sleep. Physical connection keeps the relationship even when there is no mood for more.
A good massage gel or oil, a soft sheet, pleasant lighting, smaller things that make a big difference in a month when everything else is hard.
