A first purchase of an intimate toy is often made harder by two things: too much choice and uncertainty about quality. Here is a short guide that should ease the decision.

What not to start with

Not with the lowest-priced model and not with "all-in-one" products that promise more functions. The first is often poor in quality, the second waters down the experience. Start with one simple, quality device that does one thing well.

Material is more important than shape

Medical silicone ("body-safe" silicone) is the standard. It is durable, you can clean it without trouble and it leaves neither smell nor colour. Plastic without certification or a porous material are signs that the product is below the standard.

With vibrations, look for a quiet motor and adjustable intensity. A noisy device is immediately unpleasant to use; one that is too loud also makes use in a partner situation harder.

The price that counts

A price range between 30 and 80 euros usually covers a quality "first purchase". Under 20 euros often means a compromised material and motor. Over 100 euros, however, functionality that for a beginning is often more than needed.

A lubricant is not a choice, but a necessity

It does not matter which product you choose, a water-based lubricant is a necessary part of the experience. With silicone products choose a water base, not a silicone one (silicone on silicone destroys the material of the toy).

A purchase in a Slovenian shop means that you have two weeks to return it without a reason, a two-year warranty and a clear contact in case of questions. With intimate equipment, discretion and reliability are an important part of what you pay for.
