Menstrual cup

A menstrual cup is a reusable medical-silicone cup that collects flow instead of absorbing it — cared for properly it lasts years and replaces hundreds of single-use products. Colours run from magenta, lilac and violet through turquoise and aquamarine to pink, dark blue and blackcurrant. Accessories are stocked too: a cup steriliser at 5.99 €, and the Iriscup ships with a steriliser pouch included.

Which size to choose

Sizing is labelled differently by brand: Fun Factory uses A and B, while Intimichic, Nina Kikí and Stercup use S and L. Manufacturers generally recommend the smaller size for a lighter flow and before a vaginal birth, the larger one after it or for a heavier flow. Capacity and dimensions are listed on each product page. If you are unsure, take a Satisfyer set: it packs both sizes, 15 and 20 ml, so you can compare them within the same cycle. Fun Factory states the FUN CUP holds four to six times more than a tampon.

Use, wear time and sport

The cup is inserted folded and opens inside to a gentle seal — positioned correctly, you should not feel it. Manufacturer instructions typically give a wear time of up to 12 hours; the figure that counts is the one in your model's leaflet. Because the cup sits internally and absorbs nothing, it suits sport and swimming. Expect a learning curve: in every qualitative study reviewed, insertion took several cycles of practice before it sat reliably.

Cleaning, sterilising and storage

Between emptyings a rinse with clean water is enough; at the end of the cycle boil the cup or treat it in a steriliser. Let it dry completely and store it in the fabric pouch supplied — sealed in an airtight container, residual moisture stays in the silicone. Avoid oil-based care products, which attack silicone.
