Why care matters
A well-maintained product lasts 5 years. A poorly maintained one made of the same material lasts 12 months. The difference is not price, it is 5 minutes after every use.
The second reason is hygiene: a product that has not been cleaned thoroughly carries bacteria on its surface, and within a few hours those multiply to concentrations that cause local irritation. This is true of every material, not only of porous TPE/TPR.
The standard cycle after use
Step 1 — Lukewarm water, not hot
After use, rinse with lukewarm water (35–40 °C). Water above 50 °C does no chemical harm, but it breaks down the softeners in TPE/TPR and shrinks the seals in vibrating modules. Cold water is not enough to remove body oils and lubricant.
Step 2 — Soap without fragrance
Use a pH-neutral soap without fragrance or dyes. The simplest solution is a liquid soap for children's hands (Sebamed or Eucerin neutro, for example). Fragranced soaps leave chemicals on the product that irritate mucous membrane the next time you use it.
Never apply alcohol-based disinfectants directly to silicone or TPE/TPR — the material breaks down. Alcohol disinfectants are suitable only for glass, ABS and stainless steel.
Step 3 — Drying
Wipe with a microfibre cloth, not with a paper towel (the fibres stick to damp silicone and are hard to remove). Leave the product in the air for 10–15 minutes so it dries completely before you store it — moisture in the storage bag is the main cause of bacterial growth.
Disinfection (when it is genuinely needed)
Standard cleaning (water + soap) is enough in 95 % of cases. Disinfection is necessary only in these situations:
- After sharing the product with another person (not a regular partner).
- After a period of more than 30 days unused in a closed bag.
- On suspicion of contamination (the product fell on the floor or touched an unclean surface).
To disinfect:
- Glass, stainless steel, ABS: you can boil them in water for 5 minutes (parts without electronics only).
- Medical-grade silicone: dishwasher on the top rack (only without vibrating modules), or a 5-minute soak in 70 % isopropyl alcohol followed by rinsing.
- TPE/TPR: sterilisation is without exception impossible without the material breaking down. After sharing, always a new product per person.
Vibrating products (electronics)
With any product that has a motor, never submerge the battery housing or the charging port in water. Products marked IPX7 or higher are fully waterproof — you can rinse them under running water.
Products marked IPX4 are splash-resistant, which means: you may rinse them, but not submerge them.
After cleaning, always dry charging ports (USB-C, magnetic) thoroughly with a cotton bud before connecting the charger. Moisture in the port causes contact corrosion, which is the main cause of losing charging function in the first year.
Storage
The best place is a dry, dark spot at room temperature (15–25 °C). A drawer in a cabinet beats an open shelf in most cases — the temperature fluctuates less and UV exposure is zero.
Every product in its own bag. Different silicones react in contact and fuse together over time, especially in a warm room. Our products come with a bag in the original packaging — use that, or buy storage bags for a larger collection.
Store battery-powered products partly charged (40–60 %), not full and not empty. Lithium-ion batteries keep best in that range.
Frequently asked questions
What do I use if I have no pH-neutral soap?
Warm water alone is 90 % of the solution. Better with no soap than with a fragranced one. Add a suitable bar of soap to your next order — a cost of 3 €, enough for 6 months of washing.
How often does a silicone product need deep disinfection?
In private use: never. Standard cleaning after every use is enough. Without an actual need, disinfection damages sooner than it helps.
The product has developed a yellowish tint on the surface. Is it still safe to use?
A yellow tint on silicone is usually oxidation from UV light or air — an aesthetic matter, not a health risk. If it remains flexible and free of cracks, it is safe to use. If it is noticeably harder or the surface has blistered, replace it. More in returns — products with a manufacturing fault are covered by the warranty.
