Buyer's guide

A guide to toy care and cleaning

A toy you clean regularly and store properly lasts for years and stays hygienically safe. A poorly maintained one turns porous, sticky and can irritate the skin. Ten minutes of routine after each use is all it takes.

Cleaning by material

Non-porous materials (medical silicone, glass, stainless steel, ABS) clean up with warm water and mild soap or a dedicated cleaner. Porous materials (TPE, TPR, jelly) hold more bacteria: clean them immediately and thoroughly, replace them more often, or use them with a condom.

Electronics and waterproofing

Check the rating: fully waterproof (submersible) toys can be washed under running water; for splash-proof ones never submerge the motor, wipe with a damp cloth and cleaner. The charging port must be completely dry before charging.

Storage and batteries

Give every toy its own fabric pouch, silicone touching other silicone or PVC can degrade over time. Store dry and away from direct sunlight. Before longer storage charge the battery to about half and engage the travel lock so it doesn't switch on in a drawer.

When it's time to replace

Cracks, a sticky surface, a change in color or a smell that won't wash out, all signs it's time to replace. A damaged surface harbors bacteria that no amount of cleaning reliably removes.

Quick checklist

  • Clean right after every use, not the next day.
  • Check the waterproof rating before cleaning.
  • The toy is completely dry before storage.
  • Each toy has its own pouch.
  • A damaged or sticky surface = replacement.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I put a toy in the dishwasher?

We advise against it. Detergents are too aggressive and electronics won't survive the water. Warm water with mild soap or a dedicated cleaner is the safer, equally effective route.

  • Can my partner and I share a toy?

Yes, if you clean it between users or use a condom. With a porous toy the condom is the only reliable protection.

  • Does antibacterial soap help?

Not necessary, mild unscented soap or a dedicated cleaner is enough. Aggressive soaps can leave residues that irritate mucous membranes.
