A guide to choosing Kegel balls

The pelvic floor is a muscle like any other: it strengthens with training and weakens without it. Kegel balls turn training into a passive exercise, insert them and the body holds them automatically while you walk and go about your day. The key is progression: from larger and lighter to smaller and heavier.

How to choose your first weight and size

For starters the logic is the opposite of what you'd expect: a larger ball with less weight (up to roughly 50 g) is easier to hold than a small, heavy one. Sets with several weights grow with you and are the cheapest choice long-term.

How to train

Insert the balls with a little water-based lube and wear them for 15–30 minutes during daily activities, a few times a week. Once holding them feels easy, move to a smaller or heavier ball. Results typically show after a few weeks of regular use.

When to consult a doctor

After childbirth, after pelvic surgery, during pregnancy, or if you experience pain or urinary leakage, talk to a gynecologist or pelvic floor physiotherapist before starting. Balls are training, not therapy, serious issues belong in professional hands.

Quick checklist

  • Start: larger ball, lower weight (up to ~50 g).
  • The removal cord is silicone, not textile.
  • Wear for 15–30 minutes, a few times a week.
  • Clean before the first and after every use.
  • In case of pain or problems: consult a doctor.

Frequently asked questions

  • How soon will I notice results?

With regular use most people notice a difference in 4–6 weeks: better control, stronger sensations and less leakage when sneezing or laughing. Consistency matters more than the length of any single session.

  • Can I use them after childbirth?

Yes, Kegel training is in fact most often recommended postpartum, but only after a gynecological check-up and your doctor's green light, usually after the first weeks of recovery.

  • Is there Kegel training for men?

Yes, the male pelvic floor is trained by consciously squeezing the same muscles (as if stopping the flow of urine), no devices needed. A stronger pelvic floor in men is linked to better ejaculatory control.
